About Benjamin Rovet
Ben graduated from McGill (1993 – B.A.) and from the University of Toronto (LLB) in 1996. Since his call to the Ontario bar in 1998, Ben’s professional path includes working as in-house lawyer for several telecommunications and technology companies, founding an app-based software company, and being in private practice. He has extensive experience in providing legal advice on day-to-day legal matters that a business or an individual working for a business may face, including commercial agreements, employment issues, technology law, privacy and business incorporations.
Ben is also an experienced CRTC telecommunications lawyer and has represented clients before the CRTC for telecommunications hearings and other policy and compliance matters.
In 2009, Ben founded zerofone, a VoIP-based mobile telecommunications service, which has received national media attention. Ben has worked as an in-house counsel at Call-Net Enterprises Inc. (parent company of Sprint Canada), Maxlink Communications Inc. and Rogers Cable Inc. From 2004-2006, Ben was general counsel at Yak Communications Inc., a $100M public company, where he set up the company’s legal department and was a member of the company’s senior management team. Ben is also past-Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Entertainment, Media and Communications section.
Ben’s interests include working out, hiking and outdoor activities, spending time with his family, and Starbucks coffee – preferably all at the same time.
